Taking the slower way home
A photo note about the small details between one destination and the next.
A city has a different rhythm away from its destinations. There are narrow lanes, plants crowded beside a doorway, bicycles resting against walls, and patches of light that disappear before anyone thinks to photograph them.
A short walk can be a good way to notice these things without turning the day into an itinerary.
One street, a little more attention
There is no need to return with a complete story. One photograph and a few lines can hold a particular detail: the color of a wall, a sound around a corner, the way an ordinary place feels at a certain hour.
The photograph above is a borrowed view of a residential street in Shinjuku. It leaves room for that kind of looking — a quieter image of the city, at the scale of a walk.
A place for small observations
Not every entry has to be an essay. Some days a note might be a paragraph and a picture. On other days it might become a longer story about living abroad, learning a language, or finding a familiar routine somewhere new.
The important part is having somewhere to keep it.
